Berryessa Kokanee derby draws 210

June 14, 2008 - Lake Berryessa – 210 anglers couldn’t have asked for a better day on the water at Lake Berryessa. A big turnout and bigger fish highlighted a fantastic day on the water – for the 6th Annual CIFFI Lake Berryessa Family Fun Derby. CIFFI wishes to thank the sponsors of this event – Sacramento Fire Extinguisher, California Sportsmen Radio Show, Johnson Outdoors, Markley Cove and California Truck and Trailer Body.

Berryessa is a shining jewel in the cooperative effort between CIFFI and the California DFG – the addition of kokanee to the lake has certainly made it a destination for kokanee anglers up and down the state. On derby day, anglers experienced a tough bite overall, but the fish that placed were - on average - the largest since the Berryessa Derby began.

Buckhorn Catering provided a fantastic meal including BBQ tri-tip, chicken, grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes. After the enjoyable meal, many and had an opportunity to be a part of the prize raffle which totaled more than $4500.

CIFFI wishes to thank all of the participants who spent their Saturday on the water supporting CIFFI’s fund raising efforts to pay for the kokanee plants in California.

Funds generated by CIFFI’s derbies go directly to fund the improvement of fisheries and educational endeavors throughout California. Since 1992, CIFFI - Project Kokanee - has partnered with the California Department of Fish and Game to fund the continued planting of kokanee salmon, installation of rearing pens and support of fisheries in California’s lakes.
