California's public lands offer low or no cost recreation for hunters and anglers (continued)
There are SWAs from near the Mexico Border (Hollenbeck Canyon SWA) to the border of Oregon (Horseshoe Ranch SWA), that offer everything from hunting doves to elk.
In addition, the state is acquiring more property each year, and is defining lands already purchased for use.
While California public lands is a mecca for casual hunters and anglers, the experience isn't without some challenges. Even Type A areas with their hunter quotas don't guarantee a problem free adventure. What hunter doesn't have the story of the flock of 15 mallards bombing into his decoys that were flared by some yahoo nearby firing at a spoonie flying over at 65 yards. Many of the areas don't allow camping, and there's no security for those that do.
And while these areas offer great beginnings for new sports enthusiasts, most gravitate towards hunting clubs that offer a more private, better quality, but more expensive option. These clubs can range from multi-property managing organizations like Wilderness Unlimited and Golden Ram to exclusive duck clubs or individual ranch leases.
Coming soon... Land Management companies that lease private land for hunter and angler members.
