Andrea Sherpa-Zimmermann

Andrea spent the majority of her childhood in the mountain region of the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. Having studied Law at University, Andrea graduated as an Attorney-at-law, specializing in international sports. She has now worked as Legal Counsel for more than ten years at the International Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lausanne, Switzerland. Sport and mountaineering is part of Andrea's life, which lead her to become a member of the Swiss Ski Mountaineering Team. Practicing high level sports from many years, competing in Alpine skiing, rowing and then ski mountaineering and trail running, helped her to become a winner of the famous ski mountaineering competition “The Patrouille des Glaciers”, or the “CCC of the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc ( CCC UTMB)” among many more competitions. The importance to be in the mountains being deeply in her heart, introduced her to the high altitude expeditions in the Himalayas (Cho Oyu, 8201m, Manaslu, 8163m, Shishapangma, 8013m, Himlung Himal, 7126m, Ama Dablam 6856m and other numerous 6000 meters peaks in the Himalayas). Separately, Andrea and her husband Norbu Sherpa have founded the non-profit organisation “The Butterfly Help Project” to support the wives of the climbing Sherpa and their children to offer these later the opportunity to pursue their education. Since the earthquake in 2015 that has devastated Nepal, they also contribute through their organisation to rebuilt schools and support the education system. Andrea speaks fluently various languages: Swiss German, French, German, English and Italian.
