Malabar River Festival returns to Kerala

The second edition of India's premier whitewater kayak competition will be held in two of the gushing rivers of what is dubbed as Gods own country.

) in association with District Tourism Promotional Council, Kozhikode, Kerala and media partner --The Outdoor Journal (www.outdoorjournal.com)-- India's only adventure sports publication brings you the second edition of the Malabar River Festival.

The festival will be held between the 25th to 27th of July, on the rivers of Iruvanhipuza, Chalipuzha and Kuttiady.

The first edition of the Malabar River festival was a “roaring success” in the words of District Collector of Kozhikode Ms C A Latha.

It featured 50 athletes from all over India, the UK, Nepal, America, Italy and Denmark.  With a grand prize of over Rs. 3 lakhs, the competition was well contested and drew an estimated audience of 6000 people.

Building on last year’s highly successful first edition, the organizers hope that this years competition will be “Bigger, Harder and Stronger. With nearly double the prize money from last year (Rs. 5 lakhs/ USD 9000) up for grabs, MRF-2 is expected to have an estimated 80 participants from India and abroad.

The competition will be held over three days and will include a new river location at Kuttiady, along with several new event categories like  Endurance Boater Cross and Play-Boating Freestyle.

The Malabar Festival 2014 will feature the following categories and events:

2.     Downriver Race & Boater cross (time trials)

3.     Endurance boater cross   (Tentative)

2.     Beginners / First Timers
